My client is the NZ operation of a multinational listed on the US & Japanese stock exchange. This company operates in the primary sector and has operations predominantly based in the north of the North Island. The NZ operation turns over approximately $110M and has an asset base of $160M. The company has been in very much expansion mode, with growth rates at between 30-40%. This role has arisen due to the incumbent moving out of Finance into a general management role.
The role of Financial Controller is really broad - from a very strategic / commercial focus to elements of hands on accounting. You will report directly to the GM who has been with the company since 2014 through the growth. The incumbent is too far stretched so is stepping out of Finance but will be there for a support network.
Your role is to ensure the overall control of the Finance & administration function of the business. You will be responsible for a small team of 3 finance staff in Head office but also administration staff who are located at of the main sites.
Your key responsibilities will include;
- Reviewing the monthly financial statements prepared by the team
- Budgeting & forecasting
- Managing cashflow in particular in relation to acquisitions
- Tax compliance and tax planning, particularly around acquisition strategies.
- Secretarial matters
- Managing the banking relationships
- Oversee the statutory & annual Audit process
- Overseeing HR
- Reporting requirements for the OIO and ETA
- IT implementation & reporting projects.
- Company insurances
- Internal Audits
This role will require you to manage stakeholders, from the global company, to local bankers, auditors, tax agents, insurance brokers, as well as key senior management within the local team.
The current team is very much preparing the financial information so although you need to be hands on from time to time, it also important you are able to take a helicopter view to provide a review function.
This company continues to very much be in acquisition & growth mode. So this role will suit someone who is looking to be part of a growing company and can help drive the business forward. To be considered for this role, you must be CA qualified. We are looking for someone with a strong compliance & controls background as well as strong reporting capability & knowledge. Combined with this, you must have a commercial outlook & the ability to analyse business risk & opportunity. You will be proactive in your thinking, like change and have acted in a similar role where you have proven capability at this level. We are looking for someone experienced at this level who can slot in, who wants to get involved in the business. In reality, you must be able to travel to North Auckland bi-monthly to be at the heart of the business. You must alsohave a strong level of integrity & honesty.
