My client is a privately owned family business with a highly vertical supply chain from manufacturing to installation of their niche product. The company distributes across NZ, UK and the USA. With some major wins on contracts in recent times the company is experiencing significant growth and some exciting times ahead. In conjunction with this, the family is beginning the succession planning process with the MD (being the original founder) looking to start handing over the reins to his son. Now is the time, to bring in an experienced Financial Controller to support the transition, growth and to help drive this business forward.
The role of Financial Controller is really a greenfields role. The MD/owner hails from an Accounting background so has performed a dual function until now but has decided its time to bring in a full time experienced Financial Controller who can bring their current knowledge and know how to this business and upgrade the quality of the finance department.
There are 7 companies in the Group, circa $14M today with the possibility of tripling this revenue with recent contract wins. The business employs approximately 70 people and has a clerical team of four people supporting the business.
This is your opportunity to come in and review current business practices within finance and drive improvements, in reporting, policies, procedures and the financial stewardship of the business. Nothing is broken! "Dad" is astute and commercially savvy and knows the finance function needs a face lift to bring it into this century. Having said that, they do utilise Greentree (old version) and utilise Clickview for business analysis. There will no doubt be systems & processes to review. A full reporting pack exists today so it may be a case of a review & enhancing its value.
You will still need to be hands on in your approach but can also bring your commercial and business knowledge to this company and be part of the management team. This role can be so much more than pure accounting but its up to you.
To be considered for this role, you must be CA qualified. You need to bring a wealth of broad based knowledge, ideally some manufacturing experience but most definitely a hands on approach to finance. You may be required to travel at the beginning to really understand this business. The company has a number of loyal staff due to the strong family values and their honest, ethical approach to business. As this is a family business, it would be advantageous if you understand working for this type of business and can understand the succession planning process they are also going through.
