My client is a successful NZ entity in growth mode with an offshore privately owned parent company. This business has gone from strength to strength and holds 80% market share with an aggressive growth focus in the years ahead.
The parent has been operating for over 60 years with the NZ operation in full force for about 12 years. The company has a global brand and is a highly profitable and secure business. It is a truly remarkable business. The NZ business operates in the distribution and service industry.
The role of Financial Controller will report directly to the MD. This is a role that you must make your own and really add value at the senior leadership table, to help grow the business.
Your key responsibilities will include the usual Financial Control, from managing a team of 3-4 direct reports, hedging, intercompany funding, cash management, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, inventory management, month end and year reporting and ensuring the financial stewardship of the company is taken care of. Your technical capabilities to run a core Finance function is a given.
What you need to bring in addition to the above is the commercial nous and strengths outside of core finance. We are looking for someone that can bring another dimension to the Leadership group, adding commercial and strategic weight from a financial standpoint. You will need to partner the sales team, be customer focused and be prepared to get involved with the customers direct in terms of contract negotiations, tenders & bids. Additionally you need to own the HR function, legal contracts and oversee IT which is outsourced.
The organization is also rolling out SAP this year so there will be a post implementation to work through with a go live of 1 May this year.
This is a role where you will need to be hands on to start with but as the business grows, so too will this role.
To be considered for this role, you must be able to demonstrate a strong technical background where you have a proven track record leading the Financial function. You have to show an ability to roll up the sleeves in terms of the pure accounting function when required and an ability to develop and mentor your people. It would be advantageous if you are CA and have an inventory related background.
As this role offers so much more, it will be your ability to provide the commercial nous to the business that the MD is really looking for. You must be able to travel to board meetings which can be in sorts of locations, (not just in NZ) as well as to the Group's annual Financial Control conference which is in Germany around June every year.
This is not a role where you will be 9-5; you will need to talk to Group on a regular basis and this will normally be outside standard NZ office hours. So this really will suit an individual who is striving to add value, be involved in the growth and expansion of a business and really by hungry, driven and motivated to go the extra mile.
