My client is a NZ business operating in the IT sector. With a team of around 20 staff the business is going from strength to strength and now requires a full time Financial Controller to report directly to the CEO. The business has strong values around family, work life balance, honesty and integrity. The place oozes employee welfare as a key point of difference and is therefore a place where people enjoy coming to work every day.
The role of Financial Controller is a broad based role where you will take overall stewardship of the finance function but ultimately we are looking for someone who wants to contribute to the growth of the business and be part of that success story.
You will have responsibility for mentoring an accounting clerk who takes responsibility for the clerical duties but whom is also studying so looking to develop. The idea is you can develop this person whilst pushing work downward, freeing yourself to take on more responsibilities from the CEO, some of which will be broader than just pure finance.
The core will include the usual which will include;
- Preparation of monthly management accounts
- Analysis of the results for insights to the Board
- Cashflow management
- Tax compliance
- Budgets and forecasts
- Managing banking relationships day to day
- Automation projects around system integration between time capture and invoicing processes
- Overseeing payroll
- Mentoring the Accounting clerk
However there is more breadth particularly around contractual agreements and master service agreements, insurances, HR capabilities and the facilities management. Really it will be up to you to take on more value add work and really be involved in growing this business by providing financial and non-financial insights.
To be considered for this role, we are looking for a CA or equivalent qualified Financial Controller that wants to be involved in a privately owned growing business. You must have a focus on continual improvement and be open to change and chaos. This is not an ordinary role where you just take care of finance. We are therefore looking for someone with some spark, someone who wants to be involved and someone that definitely has a sense of humour. The values of the company are strong and important so culture fit will be important.
